The dinosaur's coloration functioned as camouflage suited for open habitats, displaying countershading with a dark dorsum and a light venter. The tail was patterned with alternating, high-contrast dark and light bands, and a dark longitudinal stripe ran across the face through the eyes. However, the reddish-brown hue depicted in most artistic reconstructions remains hypothetical: this color was originally identified from a specimen that was reclassified in 2025 as Huadanosaurus.
